Some of the best retirement communities can be found right online.  When my wife and I were looking to find a residential care facility for her dad this is where we looked.  We were able to find him a place that offered dignified care, many community activities, and a fantastic staff.  He has been there for 6 months now and loves it.  He has enough privacy where he can let down and just be himself, yet there is always someone on 24 hour call just in case he needs help.  He just loves being around other residents and making new friends.
