Where does Gowers’ sign Seen?
February 25, 2010 10:47 pm Health and FitnessThe neurologists use a sign that indicates a weakness of the proximal postural muscles which is the Gower’s sign, mostly those of the pelvis and lower limb. Patients who are positive for the sign are described as having to use their hands and arms to “walk” up their body from a squatting position due to lack of strength in the pelvis and legs. It was named after William Richard Gowers. It is typically and classically seen in conditions like Duchenne muscular dystrophy, centronuclear myopathy, myotonic dystrophy and various other diseases with proximal muscle weakness. The sign does not show up early in the condition when there is still some good strength available.
